BERLIN! (Day 6)

My sixth day in Berlin was spent exploring (again) of course. My basic plan was to go to places I had seen on the tours so far but hadn't gotten a chance to go inside. I was so excited to go to St. Hedwigs (the oldest Catholic church in Berlin) and to climb the stairs of Siegessäule to see great panoramic views of Berlin! I also walked for a few kilometers around the Tiergarten (pretty much the biggest park in Berlin) as well as down Unter den Linden (one of the main streets in Berlin).

Picture time:

here is a much better picture of the fake building!

st. hedwigs
fun fact: j.k. rowling picked the name for harry potter from a book of saints.
go catholicism! and harry potter!

official plaque of awesomeness!!

the lighting in here wasn't the best which was unfortunate because it really was beautiful.
i loved the banner they had behind the altar with all of the 12 disciples names.

the entire church was circular.
there was a main altar on the first level and a second altar in the middle of the church
that began on the first floor and descended into the lower floor. awesome.

of course i lit a candle, it's kinda my thing.

matthew 10:32

these were the coolest stations of the cross i have ever seen.
i think they were charcoal drawings.

circular church. so cool!

close up of the alter from the lower level.

while the wall was up, priests wore a sign of the division
as they prayed for an end to it.

It was a great day full of lots and lots of walking. But all the walking was totally worth it. How many times are you in Berlin, right?
